Exactly why the Eagles signed Vick

Welcome to the new and improved Urban Peephole sports section.

What better way to kick off the re-birth of the site than with Michael Vick. We all knew him as the ultra- talented former pro bowl quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. And for those of you that have been sleeping under a rock, he’s had a very publicized federal dog-fighting trial resulting in Vick spending 2 years in prison.

Well, he’s a free man now and even though NFL commissioner Roger Goddell suspended Vick for the first 6 weeks of the regular season, he was available to the highest bidder. With no one tipping their hand until the last minute, that team would be none other than the Philadelphia Eagles.

Even before the signing, the Eagles were Superbowl contenders already in my opinion. I mean they have  playmakers everywhere with Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook, Desean Jackson,  Jeremy Maclin and Lesean McCoy.

Now factor in Michael Vick. Nobody knows what type of game shape he’s in , but by the looks of his first practice he still looks pretty good. Granted, he was only in shells and not in pads getting hit, it was still a positive sign in my eyes.

I look for Michael Vick to have his own package of plays designed specifically for him, whether it’s option plays or him being in the Wildcat formation, or even him lining up at a different position. The bottom line is, the Eagles didn’t sign Vick to sit and hold a clipboard all season. It wouldn’t be worth it because they are already taking a big public relations hit for even signing Vick. I think it will also light a fire under Donovan McNabb who benched last season for a short stretch. Philadelphia is hard city to play in and McNabb has proven to be a sensitive type of guy.  I hope everything works out for the best, and I look forward to seeing the Eagles take the field this year.

So was Vick signing a good thing for the Eagles? I think so. I’d like to hear everyone’s opinion. So, what do you think?

Ultimately teams want to win. I think that's what's it all about. We saw how the wildcat changed the game last year. Philly looked at the opportunity and seize the moment. I don't think the eagles care about whether he served too little time. The fans may be a little indifferent but its all about the money.

Vick was an idiot for claiming that he didn't know what was going on. He deserved everything he's gotten and shouldn't be in the NFL. I'm tired of these pre-madonna, uneducated athletes getting all these breaks. My boy didn't do anything but fall asleep in the car and his boy killed somebody and he is in jail for life. He couldn't afford million dollar lawyers and $1000 suits. He should still be in jail all I care.

Mike vick got time 4 killing dogs. You can't that compare to the value of human life. Americans kill animals all the time...chicken,fish,cows,pigs. We just don't consider them pets. Don't know your situation so I can't speak on it. But, money only helped alittle but it wasn't deciding factor on length of his term.

Just sickening... A year from now, everyone will forget about all the dogs he executed. He should still be in jail if you ask me.
