The time don't fit the crime... Is justice still blind??

Troubled NFL Athletes.

I know that I am not the only person who has been seeing these athletes get in trouble over the years. But can someone explain to me what just happened today?

I just saw a man who shoots himself in the leg in a nightclub cop a plea bargain to spend the next 2 years of his life in prison. The shooting was obviously an accidental, yet ignorant moment, but did it really deserve two years in prison?

Plaxico Burress , along with other athletes, seem like they are being targeted as examples by “the system” that African Americans have been taught to avoid their entire lives. At least that’s what his lawyer wants us to believe, LOL! This man lives in NY. Understands the law of the land, or at least knew someone who knew the law. This is not the first nightclub he’s been to in his time and I’m quite sure someone has previously told him that guns are prohibited on grounds w/o a permit. But hard head makes a soft (you know what), and he took it anyway. He proceeds to shoot himself in the leg while removing the gun from his jeans. Accident? Yes.Ignorant? Yes. Jailed for 2 years for this crime? Let’s examine a few questions first.

Where was the intent to hurt? Isn’t that what the law was made for? Or can you argue that he should’ve had a permit. There were other witnesses to the crime. Some of those witnesses even touched the gun after him and withheld info, thus becoming an accomplice in the crime and committing obstruction of justice. What happened to them? Did they get anytime? Now can you tell me who the target is? Who was the case built around by the prosecutor?

Look at the facts of the matter. Plaxico knew the law going in and will serve his time based on poor decision making. But let’s put his crime up against other athletes’ crimes in his sport shall we?

Name                            Crime                                        Sentence

Michael Vick                 Dog Fighting                              23 months in prison

                                                                                    $250,000fine, 3 yrs probation

                                                                                    2yr ½ yr NFL Suspension w/o pay

Leonard Little                 DWI Manslaughter                     90 Days in Jail

4 yrs probation, 1000 hrs community service

12 total games suspended by NFL

Donte’ Stallworth            DUI Manslaughter                      30 Days in Jail (Served 24)

2 years house arrest, 8 years probation

Undisclosed settlement w/ victim’s family

Suspended 1 yr in NFL (so far)

Plaxico Burress             attempted criminal                     20 months in prison

possession of a weapon             2 years Probation

Now you tell me if this crime fits the punishment! Your thoughts?

great article... I'm wonderring now what the heck happened to his teammate antonio pierce?? Didn't he withhold information in this case? I thought I saw him on the sidelines for one of the preseason games. I haven't heard about him getting any time. Sounds like plax was the poster child on this one.

plax was offered an initial plea bargain that would have only given him 3 months in jail, but he turned it down. in addition to needing to stop doing stupid things, athletes need to figure out that they can't always get off the hook when they get caught.

what?! didn't know he was offered a plea bargain.. i wonder what it entailed?? either way he just screwed up his life as well as his career. he's not as big of a star as Vick. i doubt his demand will be as big as Vick when he gets out.

Look can we stop writing supportive messages for clowns like this? He should've gotten 10 years as far as I'm concerned. You ask where was the intent to hurt? There is plenty if you open your eyes; he guy brought a loaded gun to a crowded night club and subsequently shot someone albeit himself but he shot someone nonetheless.

I say this not throw good judgment out of the window because clearly good judgment wasn't used in M.V.'s situation (simply put dogs are not people).

Plax showed bad judgment in all phases with this event. If he was offered an initial plea deal of 3 months and turned it down...then he deserves 2 years. But the bottom line is that its crazy to think that you can shoot yourself or kill a dog and get multiple years in prison but if you kill a human you get a couple of months. I'm not sure where the logic is in that.

Anonymous- you went off the deep end with that 10 years comment?! i like your angle but, that doesnt justify giving the man 10 yrs for shooting himself. i'm sure he had the weapon for protection. there are a lot of haters out there you know. athletes are one of the biggest targets for robbery.
