D. Goard Jr. Sports Notes

Wow. It’s been a few things going on in the sports world lately and I think I’ll start with the controversial Michael Vick. He made his debut as a Philadelphia Eagle last Thursday against the Jaguars. Now this is his first action in over two years and he actually looked pretty decent. He played primarily at quarterback and lined up once at receiver. And even though he didn’t attempt that many passes, you can clearly see the tremendous arm strength that Vick has had in the past. I saw him try to scramble once, but he didn’t seem to have the same explosion. He looked fast for a quarterback, just not Mike Vick fast. He said he’s about 70 percent where he needs to be, which is understandable considering he was just a signed a couple weeks ago.  Vick even got a standing ovation by the crowd, something he later admitted that he didn’t expect.

The only problem coach Andy Reid and the Eagles have is finding consistency on offense, while still taking advantage of  Vick’s extraordinary talent. Donovan McNabb needs to get in a rhythm to make the offense go and it’s hard when your switching quarterbacks every few plays. If they can make it work, they Eagles will definitely be player in the NFC.

Brett Favre. I so tired of this cat I don’t know what to do. So after another off season that he says he’ll stay retired, guess what….he’s back. It’s not that I’m saying he can’t still play, but it’s how he went about it. I used to think it was the media, but Favre seems just as much to blame. Yep, you’ve got the teary-eyed press conference, saying he’s done and then he’s back. And then you sign with Minnesota? I guess some guys will do anything for a championship. This guy is Green Bay and then you go play for the rival team?? No wonder there are reports that Favre doesn’t have a lot of support coming from the Vikings locker room. And then he waits until training camp is over to sign with the team? Give me a break. Your either with us or not. I used to big a huge Brett Favre fan with the Packers. Now….not so much.

Favre is so expired!! He purposely skip out of training camp. The divided locker room will be a problem by at least the 5th game or so. Especially when his age gets the best of him. He won't make through the entire season. The wear and tear will get the best of him.

As far as Vick, it won't work for the eagles because McNabb is already a good qb that can run the offense. The wildcat works the best when a team lacks a true qb. Rotating Vick in to the lineup will only mess the flow of offense up. It will do more harm than good

I feel you Nick. I also think Donovan McNabb is a good qb that can run the offense. The problem is that the Eagles took a lot of heat for signing Vick and probably feel they have to get him on the field to make it worth the big PR hit that they've been taking.

The fans want this guy on the field. Even the commissioner is taking the risk to shorten his suspension.
