The Top Chef (Raekwon Only built for Cuban Link II)

(Dino - What up Urbanpeephole nice to finally meet you!  When you look into this peephole you won’t see Erin Andrews but only the flyest of music tips and must hears on the web.  Let me formally introduce myself as your blog Emcee, some call me "ADB", but you can simply call me "Dino B."  As always with blogs your subscription is our goal and your comments are our fuel so spare us no thoughts even if they are full of hatorade, lol.  That said lets get into Urbanpeephole’s first music review!

The Top Chef?

Yeah that’s right the Top Chef and I don’t mean that boojie cooking show on Gayvo (Bravo for those of you that aren’t catching my drift). I’m talking about Wu Tang’s own Raekwon or The Chef as he is sometimes referred too but for the purposes of this review we’ll call him the Top Chef.

Homey is back on the radar like Iran’s nuclear program and let me be the first to tell you the new material is hotter than Kim K.!  Only Built for Cuban Linx II is hip hop at its finest, with lines as raw as sushi the boy is on fire (but I bet you aint turn the Drake off for long enough to notice). Cuban Linx pt 1 was released in 1995 and folks like me have been waiting on this installment for nearly 15 years; I guess he had to age these lyrical grapes like some fine wine.  At 1st listen I wanted drop my corporate gig (which isn’t all of that before you start wondering) and put on my Chef’s hat (you feel me)?

It seems like the whole Wu-Tang makes an appearance on Cuban Linx pt Duex, I guess they all got something to prove since they’ve been taking shoots off newcomers over the last decade or so (see the hate from whack rappers like 10 nickels aka 50 Cent, Joe Budden etc.) and its not like the Wu hasn’t swarmed on all haters appropriately but all of that is water under the bridge now because they did the damn thing on this LP. The Wu crew shows up like hip hop Gods on “New Wu”-- classic; “House Of Flying Daggers”--certified hotness; “Mean Streets”, “Kiss the Ring”, and a couple other joints that really beg the question of, what do other rap squads have to combat the Wu Crew?

Now, I wouldn’t be worth the computer you reading this on if I didn’t point out all the help from the magical GhostFace Killah (sorry I’m little partial here because GFK is one of my favorite rappers courtesy of my own BFF, lol). Top Chef and GFK shine like a new Benz on cuts like “Cold Outside” ($10 you’ll be singing the hook before the song ends); “Gihad” (this one sent chills down my spine) and “Penitentiary”.  Plus Ghost is on nearly every Wu Tang reunion track on this album so I kind of feel like you get a 2 for 1 when you grab this one off the shelves (or lala.com for all you digi-heads).  While we on the feature tip (please don’t hate unless you sharing the hate with Jigga Man too because his latest disappointment was full up with features) let’s congratulate Jada Kiss and Styles P for joining the Chef on this effort. “Broken Safety” was nothing short of phenomenal as the Lox alumni drop jewels for us all to savor.  And let’s not forget B. Sigel on “No Mercy”; whew I mean this joint is bananas!

Honestly Urbanpeephole I could go on and on about this one but I wont because this one is well worth your $10 (I mean “Pyrex Vision” is an interlude and it’s off the meter, come on folks listen up raw non-commercial hip hop is alive and well)! I’m going to leave you with a quote from Papu Wu: “How far that thou travel? Thou travel as far as the dimension he can see… What you see? … Watch the liar, watch the cheat, watch the thief…”

Till next time!
