News and Notes...

Jasper Howard, a junior cornerback for the Connecticut Huskies was fatally stabbed late Saturday night following their homecoming dance. Just a few hours earlier, Howard helped lead UCONN to a 38-25 win over Louisville in which he had 11 tackles. The team will wear stickers on their helmets to honor Howard in their match-up against West Virginia this weekend. A man was brought into police custody, but has not yet been charged with the crime.

Cincinnati quarterback Tony Pike's status is uncertain for this weekend's game. He injured his left arm last week against South Florida. He underwent a procedure today to repair a plate in his arm from a previous injury. Hopefully Pike can make it back soon, because he gives Cincinnati the best chance to win.

San Francisco 49ers rookie Michael Crabtree will not only make his debut this weekend against the Houston Texans but will start at wide out. I'm very interested to see how he plays after such a long lay-off, but if Mike Singletary is giving him the start, he must look very impressive in practice.

The NFL trade deadline has come and gone. There were a few rumors of potential trades, but in the end, no one pulled the trigger. Definitely one of the more quieter trading deadlines the last few years.

I heard about the Jasper Howard incident this weekend. Wonder if it was involved with another student?? Seems to be harder and harder for young people to go out and have fun in peace. Either way it's messed up to go out like that.

Yea Matt, it's a sad incident. I don't know exactly how it got started, but it seems like some of these athletes are targeted when they go out and have fun.

Cincinnati should be ok this weekend without Pike. Hopefully he can play, but UL is 2-4 which should be nothing for Cincinnati. Expect them to run the ball a lot with the occasional deep ball when UL least expects it.

I agree J Swiss. Cincinatti should be okay this weekend. At the rate they're going, the Bearcats will end up in a BCS bowl, and will definitely need Mr. Pike's services by then.
