Rotchie Chronicles: This week in Ignorance
This week in IgnoranceBy D.Harvey
Here we go again, another case of "Stupidity!" Lately, I've been watching these athletes reach the top of their sports game and all of a sudden commit these random acts of ignorance. Like we haven't learned from seeing other peoples' mistakes and misfortune, here comes another athlete showing kids how to conduct themselves when you "make it."
Agent 0, or should I say his government name: Gilbert Jay Arenas Jr., has been in the news for gun possession and the NBA is thinking of suspending him due to it. The suspension is indefinite, without pay, and will cost Gilbert $147,208 per game missed.
Gilbert's story behind his gun possession is that he brought the guns to the Wizards' home arena in order to keep them away from his daughter; who could possibly gain access to them at home. The other story is that he pulled out one of those guns in an attempt to settle a gambling debt of $60,000; which he owed to fellow teammate Javaris Crittenton.
WHAT!? Have you gone mad man? And the Golden Question of the week: Why even bring guns to the locker room in the first place?
I understand that you don't want them around your daughter. But, you in turn bring them into the locker room where you're the star player and the starting pg. What type of leader is that? The leader of my franchise bringing guns into the locker room, even after Plaxico!? No way!
Silver Question of the week: Why is this 100 million dollar man borrowing $60,000? Better yet, why is he borrowing the money from a player on his rookie contract? (Meaning, he gets less than $10 million over 3 years). What is that about?
Allegedly, there was a card game that had gone wrong and Sir Gilbert lost $60,000 to teammate Ja-Vale McGee. He then went to Crittenton to borrow the money and never paid his debt. An argument ensued, and then both players pull guns on each other to settle this debt. Since violence begets violence; what does this solve? What now, oh fearless leader and franchise player?
Finally, Bronze question of the week: Who committed the biggest act of stupidity? Plaxico or Gilbert? Let me know folks. I'll be waiting to read.

I would say Gilbert because he actually brought a gun to his place of employment. I'm not saying that Plaxico should have had his in the club but, there is a big difference. Plaxico's biggest downfall is more so when he shout himself than the possession aspect. Both of them were rather thought-less in terms of ramifications though.

Well, your comment is a good one, but lets look at it this way: He brings a gun to his place of employment. An argument ensues and both players are shot. What then?

What then? It reads as follows: Two dumb jerks from the NBA shoot each other inside their locker room.

If two dumb jerks are shot, that's never good. I know Gilbert has children, but I'm not sure about Javaris. Anyway, each have family and I know they wouldn't want either to be hurt and killed like that. What this shows me is guns don't kill people. Stupid people w/guns kill people.

Another senseless act of stupidity. Anyone thinking this was "ok" is not in touch with reality. No where else in the coporate environment would this have been allowed without immediate termination and a possible arrest shortly thereafter. Gilbert Arenas' comments and apologies after the suspension ring hollow in my opinion and hold little value at this point.

Sadly there peers won't learn from their mistakes. Remember, they were the ones to get caught. There is no telling what others may be doing behind the scenes.

Lee, that's what makes this so ignorant. This is wrong on all accounts. Gambling, unable to pay debts, and getting mad when a man asks for his money? Why is it we come to this when at one point there wasn't even a black man in the NBA? Now 75% of the league is black and we act like this and show the world ignorance. He deserves to be suspended. He should be expelled!
