Utah becomes progressive by electing first Black woman as mayor

(AP) - Mia B. Love becomes the first Black woman to be elected mayor in Utah (Saratoga Springs).
In 2008, the U.S. Census Bureau reflected that out of the 2.6 million people in Utah, 49.5 percent were women and a mere 1.3 percent of those were Black.
"We're forward-thinking. We're not bound by racial stigmas, "the new mayor told Desert News. "People don't care about that. They don't even see a color."
(UPH) - If Utah is forward thinking...then other states with much higher black population must be backwards. Race normally becomes a hang-up for many cities across the country around election time.
Do you think it's a sign that we are moving forward as a country? Or, is this just an isolated case?
