From the Heart

Watching the daily coverage of Haiti and the problems that they are facing is a somber experience. A multitude of media outlets are asking for its viewers to reach into their pockets and donate. You can donate by dialing, you can donate by texting, and you can even donate by Facebook application. But what if you don’t have it? My pastor made an observation a couple of Sundays ago. He said, it’s funny how people are quick to say that they don’t have it; but the general population knows that you do. They continue to build beauty supply stores and chicken joints near us because even though we say that ‘we don’t have it’; these businesses flourish with our help.
Now, I’m not here to dictate what to do with your hard earned money. Actually, if you do not donate a single red cent; I will not be the one to shake my head at you. You see, just as Katrina hit our shores and disrupted the way of life for our sisters and brothers (and I’m not talking about “Black Power” here); we all banded together and a number of things were sent besides money to aid in their relief. All it takes is for one person to reach out to their neighbor, their church, or even their neighborhood Red Cross (they don’t just take blood). Heck, even if that’s all you CAN give…then, by all means, do it. Your veins are a self-replenishing resource that won’t cost you a dime. I just urge you to do something. You never know. You could be the next person that is asking for your brothers and sisters to help you out.

Good point. A lot of "us" say we don't have it because we are not spending our money in the right places It's no secret why fast food & beauty supply businesses target our neighborhoods. We have one of the biggest consumption rates in those industries which would explain why most of us claim to be broke. Heck even skipping the club/bar every now and then would do a lot for ourselves as well as others.
