Album review: : Another Round

By Kim Jackson
I spent some time listening to Jaheim's "Another Round" today and I'm sorry Jaheim fans, but I was not impressed. Granted, he has a definite hit on his hands with "Ain't Leaving Without You"; which seems to borrow from De La Soul's "Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)". It works…even the remix with Jadakiss. But the rest of the album leaves a lot to be desired.
There is one that could grow on me, if I let it; a track titled "Closer". But, I thought that Jaheim would give a little bit more. To have an artist come on the scene and be compared to the likes of legends such as Luther Vandross and Teddy Pendergrass, and continue to give us albums that feature one hit record and possibly another song that you can take or leave is a bit disappointing. It's a bit disheartening to know that such talent is not being used to its full potential. Is it the writers? A & R? Is he writing his own lyrics? Or could the truth be even more unsettling...that he's just fine with having one hit record every few years or so?
As, I said before...my sincerest apologies to the Jaheim fans. There is no denying the man has an incredible voice; I will certainly give him that. But, "Another Round" will not be one that's left in my CD player. I give it 1 ½ stars out of 5.

agreed. this is one that should be borrowed.
