In My Mind 07/12/10
What's good Urbanpeephole family! It's been a lot happening lately and there's a few things I wanted to touch on...

King or Queen?
Ok, now this has definitely been one of the most talked about topics that I can remember. For those that have been living under a rock...Lebron James the former Cleveland Cavalier star announced to the world, that he would be taking his talents to South Beach and is set to join Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat. Following his announcement, Cavalier owner Dan Gilbert struck back at James calling his actions "cowardly" and 'self promoting" I've heard a lot of different opinions about this and I figured I'd give mine.
First off, I just want to say that I'm not mad at Lebron for leaving the Cavaliers. It's his life, his career. If he feels that's the best thing for him...then so be it. The thing I have a problem with is HOW he did it. In this life, there's a certain way to go about things. If I'm working somewhere and find another job...I don't know about everybody else, but I usually put in a two week notice. So my question for everybody defending how Lebron handled this, just hear me out....If he wasn't trying to stick it to the Cavs, why would he hype up an hour long nationally televised interview that was viewed by 10 million people, to tell the world that he was leaving his hometown high and dry? Come on man. Why is it that the Cavs mangagement had been texting and leaving voicemails for Lebron since the playoffs and he didn't answer not one of them. Come on man. Why is it that Lebron notified the Cavaliers of his decision only 5 minutes before the announcement, and then wasn't man enough to even make the call himself? Yep...he had his close buddy Rich Paul contact them. Why?? Because it was "cowardly". Because it was "self promotional"
Now don't get me wrong...Lebron James is an amazing basketball player, but I don't respect how he handled this situation at all. Why not a simple press release or a tweet ala Kevin Durant? If he really cared about his hometown he would have had enough respect to tell the organization his intentions and allow them to be more aggresive in the free agent market or through the draft. But no. He told them at the last minute so he wouldn't spoil " The Decision" . And then he chose to go to the Miami Heat with Wade? Why not go to NY or Chicago where he could be "the man"? I don't wanna hear that crap about great teams had other great players. Those players were great because they those teams built them up. Magic Johnson didn't want to play with Bird...he wanted to BEAT Larry Bird. Jordan didn't force a trade to the Pistons because he couldn't beat them...he just took his lumps, got better and eventually won. As a competitor, you should want to beat the best. Help me out Urbanpeephole...name me a player who was a consensus "top 2" player in the league, coming off back to back MVP's that went to another team with a "top 3" player already and has pretty much the same skill set. In my opinion, Lebron pretty much conceded that he couldn't do it on his own and I just can't respect that. Some players have it in them and some don't. And I don't think he does.
I really feel bad for the city of Cleveland. I can't think of another athlete with this much effect on one area. Despite being one of the poorest cities in America, Cavs fans packed the Quicken Loans Arena every night. Even in times of adversity, they were there to take up for Lebron. It's going to take years for the Cavs to rebound from a competitive standpoint and also financially. So Lebron...if this was your way of sticking it to the city of Cleveland, it looks like another slam dunk homie...mission accomplished.

Sip...Sip...Sippin on some Sizzurp
I couldn't help but chuckle when I first heard about this. I thought to myself...this guy cannot be serious. Apparently, former Oakland Raiders QB Jamarcus Russell was recently arrested for possesion of codiene syrup, a drug that is very popular in the southern part of the US. I really think that it's a shame that this guy can't get it together. He may not have it between the ears, but he throws a football further than anybody I've ever seen. However, we all know it takes more than arm strength to be a great quarterback in the NFL. Combine that with a poor work ethic and no leadership skills and there you have, well...Jamarcus Russell. I wouldn't be surprised if he never took another snap in the league. Next time leave the sizzurp to Lil Wayne and 3-6 Mafia my man.

Champs!
I just wanted to congratulate the 2010 Spanish team on winning the 2010 FIFA World Cup. I have to admit, that I'm not a huge soccer fan as I am other sports, but this year I kept a fairly close eye on it. I think it's amazing to see all the fan support these teams have out there. Soccer may not be that big in the US, but in a lot of other countries...it's #1, no question. I believe it starts when you're young. Kids in Africa and South America want to play soccer and and kids in the US want to play basketball and football...simple as that. Even though soccer is becoming more prevalent in the states, I don't think it will ever become our #1 sport like it is elsewhere in the world.

I agree wit you on this one D. He should have shown Akron and Cleveland a little respect. The Cavs owner and fans should have been the first to know. Its going to be hard for Duck partying, swimming, u smell me. Mr. Russell said he was doing it for Pimp C. He was a LSU tiger so I didn't care for him anyway. To shed some light on the Lebron vs Kobe thing. If Kobe would have done the same thing would it be as popular?

No, Kobe would not have gotten that much attention from the media. I think his personal situation back in Colorado would have negated any ideas of having a special show to hear his decision.

Yep, that's all I'm saying. Bron just should've showed a little more respect. Maybe Mr. Russell was doing it for Pimp C! lol It's going to be hard for him to bounce back from that one. I'm not sure if Kobe did the same thing if it would be as popular. First off, I think Lebron hyped this up and brought this on himself and now he has to live with it. He has to win. And furthermore, Kobe is waaaay too competitive to go play with Wade. It wouldn't happen.

Good point about the idea that most great players often want to compete against each other. Now that you mention it, only queens would join a team with the same attributes. It would have been a better option to demand a better supporting role in cleveland.

You feel me, front street? Why not demand a better supporting role in Cleveland? That's what Kobe did. They traded for Gasol, drafted Bynum and acquired Ron Artest. All of these players played an important part in the Lakers championship run. But they all understand that Kobe is the man. With Lebron in Miami...he can't be a king, because Wade is going to have the ball in crunch time situations.

My question is who named this guy king? How are you a king and you don't have the first thing of a ring? you weren't even the best player on the gold medal olympic team. That was arguably D.Wade and Kobe. I know Wade beat Spain in the Gold Medal game in the 4th qtr, but LeBron is King? Yea right. He owed nobody nothing b/c if you call a man King, King's don't care about the gentiles. They are to bring the king all that he requests in order to live. That's the order of royalty correct? Sip on that szurp....
and as far as Mr. Russell, if he doesn't manage that $38 million right, he'll end up looking like Mr. Wendell!
And who cares about Soccer or Futbol? they ran around for 2 hrs and didn't score. They needed more time than that to put 1 pt on the board. I might as well have sat back and watched the boston marathon.

Say what you want to about soccer. It's the number one sport in the world. I suppose that you will continue to think like that until you take your american viewfinders off.
