Amusing Musings: Lawn Care

Lawn Care

With Kim Jackson

Quick question. Has anyone ever looked up lawn care tips on the internet? You get all kind of links for watering; when to water, how much to water, what time of day you should water, and why you should water. Fertilizer. Seeding. Bermuda grass. Kentucky Blue grass. Summer lawn care. Winter lawn care. It's a cornucopia of lawn care tips. And don't ever call it 'grass' to someone that's serious about it. You'll have a debate on your hands.

I was really trying to look up the quote about the grass being greener on the other side. Where it originated and how it became equated with infidelity. (Yes, I'm weird like that...I actually use the internet to look up things like that). But as I read some of the tips; I was noticing a pattern. If a person actually took some of these tips and applied them to their relationships; then they wouldn't be looking at the grass on the other side.

Think about it. Let's say watering your lawn is like showing affection...not sex...affection; two different things. If you show affection several times a day as you would water a luscious green lawn; then you could have just the right amount of affection for your relationship. And as with a lawn; if you're over watering or not watering enough, then you have a problem on your hands. Either you'll be smothering or lacking in affection...both of which can cause issues. Then you have seeding and fertilizer. You can either look at this two ways...the lawn care way or the sports way. That seed is your commitment, bond, and/or connection. And your fertilizer is what you need to help that seed grow. It could be the little things you do for each other...cooking an intimate dinner for two, a full body massage, and yes, an occasional flower, just because. These things can go a long way. And if you want to take it to sports. Think of it this way...you got the top seed within your grasp. What are you going to do to get them and keep them playing for you? Do you really want a Lebron situation on your hands? I'm just saying.

Now, for those that feel like ANY grass is better than what you have. You know something? Be honest with yourself and your mate. Because, seriously, if the situation is bad enough that you have to step outside of your yard every now and then; you are doing yourself and your mate a serious disservice. You can use the children as an excuse if you like; but, children are not dumb by a long shot. They may not be mathematical prodigies, but they know when mommy and/or daddy is not happy. So, not only are you cheating...you are cheating yourself, your mate, and your child(ren). All of which deserve better.

And for those that get all this care and attention and still think that the grass is greener on the other side? You really should be careful. You might climb that fence; throwing away a lifetime for a few minutes...that grass that looked so luscious and green? Yep...it's Astroturf.
