I’m Tired…How about you?
Witches. Nazi officer re-enactors. WWE bidders.
I swear, if it wasn’t for the fact that I couldn’t live without touchdowns, helmet crushing blows, alternate ‘Fringe’ worlds, a sarcastic limping doctor, and that I have yet to go buy my new DVD player because my current one is busted; I would turn off my television until November 3rd. And quite honestly, if I hear another teapot say that the president is ruining the country again; it’s quite possible that I may scream. Be honest with yourselves, if ‘that other guy’ and his twit had gotten elected, the state of the country would still be in shambles. If the support of getting this nation in order was given like it should be, then certain people wouldn’t be complaining. Instead, the powers that be are holding grudges and votes to get stuff (and I’m saying stuff, because using the other word I want to use is frowned upon in our society) done.
Look, for eight years we went from a decent economy to almost poverty across the board. Per the Congressional Budget Office, during the Clinton administration, the federal budget balanced and the deficit was erased. But, no! Due to some still questionable counting and alleged stolen votes, this country was subjected to duplicitous and idiotic actions that resulted in the land that we know and love to be raped, attacked, and abhorred. And the part that really puts a thorn of humongous portions in my side is that even after the first four years of disgust and indignation; a nutjob was given another four years to continue to carry out his personal vendettas. But, here we are in 2010 trying to clean up this colossal mess that some egotistical maniac left and the man that the country agreed (democrat and republican alike) was the best possibility to get things in order and we are being assaulted daily images, complaints, and campaigns to basically call this man a socialist. Are you kidding me?
Across this country, schools are closing, teachers are being laid off by the thousands, children’s hopes of getting a decent education is being determined by a lottery (A DAMN LOTTERY), homes are being lost to foreclosures, and once thriving businesses and cities are now being looked upon with dismal objectivity. The concern is only raised when some of that trickles down into citizens’ communities and by then; the votes have been passed and all the news coverage, rallies, and town meetings are null and void. So, how do we fix it? How do we take the steps to ensure that we are not subjecting our fellow citizens to a life of living out of their cars and prevent thousands of shanty towns from cropping up across this land?
First, we need to take that time we spend on the internet looking at ‘tube’ videos and growing virtual crops and use it to check your local city, county, and state happenings. If somebody is trying to pull a fast one, do you really think they’re gonna knock on your door and say, “Hey, by the way…you know how you use the local bus service to get to work? Yeah, we’re about to cancel that whole system. Sorry, ‘bout that. Guess you’re gonna lose your job.” Absolutely not! Get informed! Do some research on candidates and quit feeding into the smear jobs on television. Most of what you see is public information anyway. Go look at it and get the real story!
Most importantly…remember something. You know that good paying job that you have? You know that person outside of your family members that encouraged you to achieve beyond your dreams? You know the people that created that program that you use to reach out to friends from twenty years ago? You know the people that created that system that reaches across and around the world for you to search for anything that your mind can imagine? None of this would be possible without the education that minds had absorbed while sitting in the classroom. Look out for your children. Look out for their teachers. Look out for your community. Look out for your way of life.
And on a personal political gripe. Georgians. You know we are surrounded by multiple bounties of forestry. We all know that we all spend more than ten dollars a week (at a minimum) to go out to eat. That’s over five hundred dollars a year. When you consider that we have airplanes making emergency landings on expressways and 18 wheelers driving themselves and other people off roads; I don’t think it’s asking too much to add ten dollars a year to help build a trauma center near you that may save your life or the life of a loved one.
Okay…I’m off my soapbox. Your turn.
