Prodigy Project :: Read to Boy...Rescue a Man

The Prodigy Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, assists young boys with academic achievement by encouraging and demonstrating a love of reading.

The Prodigy Project is a grassroots community-based program working to secure successful futures for young black boys. Through the efforts of literate African-American male volunteers and others, the program strives to counter negative stereotypes, improve literacy, enhance achievement and employment, and reduce the black male presence in the penal system.

Although it is adults that go to prison, the likelihood that a child will ultimately end up there can be predicted before they can tie their own shoes. Some prison systems have noted a correlation: they have started to project the number of beds needed in the future based on current 3rd grade reading scores.
