What do the lonely do at Christmas?
Amusing Musingswith Kim Jackson
Let the celebration begin!!!
Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Oh, I’m sorry…have you not taken time out of spending your checks to wish a happy birthday? Okay, okay…just wanted to get that out of the way. And now, back to our regularly scheduled article…
The question has been asked. The question has been sung. What do the lonely do at Christmas? Um, it may seem like a moot question…but, I’m gonna ask it anyway. Why be lonely? You can be alone without being lonely. You don’t need ‘someone’ in your life to enjoy your holidays. Would it be nice? Of course it would be. But, think about it. How does having someone in your life translate into ‘happy’ holidays?
You could be with a hound dog husband. Or, you could be with a shrill of a wife. Either could be nagging, lying, and making your life miserable at what should be the happiest time of the year; raising your blood pressure while you’re raising your glasses filled with cognac without the eggnog. Now, don’t go thinking that I am against the sanctity of marriage…I’m just pointing out the facts. This could be what the lonely could be facing. Even worse, you could be lonely and they’re sitting right next to you. Ugh! I shudder to think.
But, moving on…
Let’s say you are looking at Christmas and New Year’s with melancholy because you don’t have that special one in your life. Guess what? You’re not alone. What I’m saying is you have family and friends around you that would love a visit from you. If they live hundreds of miles away; take some of that money you saved by not buying gifts and treat yourself to something nice. Take in a movie or two. Embrace the solitude and open a book. Kick off your shoes, heat up some cider, get a blanket, and push play or turn to page one. You see; you may not have ‘someone’, but you do have YOU. Take care of you with love and tenderness during this time. You will be well rested and stress free; ready to take on 2011.
So, let the others worry about what the lonely do at Christmas and know that Christmas (and New Year’s) is Christmas because you are with the one you love…you.
And if you still feel that is not enough…think about what Christmas is REALLY about and know that you do have ‘someone’ in your life.
Merry Christmas dear ones; I send to you the gift of love and may you be blessed with favor as you begin anew.
