Interview with musician Sam Letric

UPH - "We caught up with the smooth and golden voice of Sam Letric...Calling him a musician would be an understatement...I believe this is my first time ever hearing someone infuse the perfect blend of soul, rock, rhythm, and gospel into one album.  See for yourself by checking out his latest album "LifeLuvNMusik"

Questions by Kim Jackson

Q.    I've read that when it comes to your early influences, you liked Sam Cooke and Al Green. Are there any artists today that you would enjoy collaborating with? Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Raphael Saadiq, Babyface, D'angelo, Bilal, David Ryan Harris, John Legend, Alicia Keys,

Q.    What other instruments do you play or would like to play?
Eletric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar, Keyboard, (always picking up other instruments)

Q.    What are your influences for creating a project (writing a song or creating the music for a song)?
I don't have any specific influence for creating a "project" my musical influences are many so the "project" that I may be working on depends on what I feel i need to cultivate/develop at the time. I get bored at doing the same thing. To me art is not "duplication". When you're an artist, it's easy to do the same song 100 times, so if I feel i've become good at a certain thing i usually try something else as of not to get bored with the process of creating and to stretch my ability each time.

Q.    Where do you want to see your music take you?
I can't say that I desire for my music to "take me' to a certain destination, music is something that I have a relationship with so, we will be together for as long as I live. Where it takes me is completely up to whatever God has in store for me. It would be nice to simply make a living for the rest of my life doing what I love, but even then, the monetary exchange would not measure to the satisfaction I get from just enjoying the gift really.

Q.    What affect do you wish for your music to have on people?
Too many to list one, but if i had to list one, i'd hope they'd be enlightened.

Q.    Have you considered doing something in the gospel community since this is where your musical roots grew?
Not sure what you mean by the term "Gospel Community" but anything is possible, I didn't know the music that i was doing wasn't Gospel??

Q.    If you could choose one artist or group from the late 60's and 70's that influenced you; who would you choose to have a jam session with?
I don't know that I could answer that question. 1 is not fair.

Q.    If you could go back and talk to the younger Sam Letric, what advice would you give him?
I don't know what advise I'd give him because I think he's right where he's suppose to be, i'd probably tell him to play & sing as much as he can for whomever will listen until he can't do it anymore.

Q.    What advice would you give to a new artist?
The "new" artist seems to come from a different place in terms of "desire" I don't know that my advise would work with them because I think we may have to totally different ideals of what a successful career would be. I would tell any person who desires to be successful in life to always honor God & he will honor them both now & later.

Q.   Since you're putting something worth listening to on the radio, give me an idea of a name for your follow-up to 'Nothing on the Radio'.
The new album LifeLuvNMusik was released on March 1, 2011 and thus far it has been an amazing experience thus far.
