What the What?!

Every once in a while, you hear something or run across an article and it leaves you saying “What the…?!” Today is no different.

  • 18 year old Tayshana (Chicken) Murphy was shot and killed in a ridiculous case of mistaken identity. While attending a party, Tayshana was mistaken "for a boy from the group who had fought with young men from a nearby housing project," and she protested her innocence to the gunman. (Did you catch that? SHE.) Not only did this person chase her down to commit this egregious act as she pled for her life, but he took away a promising future. Tayshana was considered one of the top guard prospects in the nation and had received recruiting interest from a variety of collegiate programs.

  • U.K. police have 4 of 5 suspects in custody after rescuing 24 men that were being kept as slaves…some for as long as 15 years. Tips from other alleged victims led to a Sunday raid on the property. Allegedly, the victims were lured to the trailer park with promises of food and shelter, then threatened them with violence, and forced into hard labor. "There's no electricity. There's no running water. People haven't had their hair cut. (They're) wearing dirty clothing. And made to perform labor, rather than being given proper food and proper wages for their labors," said Detective Chief Inspector Sean O'Neil of Bedfordshire Police. Many of the men were on the verge of starvation. In a new anti-slavery law passed last year, anyone convicted of holding a person in servitude can spend up to 14 years in prison. (Two things wrong with that…new law passed last year and the ‘up to’.)

  • In an effort to get a handle on child obesity, GA is now running ads featuring children that are being bullied and diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and hypertension because of their weight. One of the ads even has a voiceover of a woman stating that she thought her daughter was ‘just big boned like her momma’. The overall motto of these ads suggest that Georgia needs to ‘stop sugarcoating’ this issue. (I agree that healthy eating habits are in need, but what is the reason for the heavy breathing after each ad? Seriously, listen…you’ll hear it.)

  • And finally, in an ultimate ‘what the what?’; some tech savvy idiot thought that it would be fun to put the nation on edge by hacking NBC’s Twitter account and send fake terror alerts. I honestly have nothing really to say about this. I’m nauseous just thinking that someone would even find this funny.
